Unlike their migrating Fall and Spring counterparts who are here today and gone tomorrow these feathered friends hunker down.   Winter birding around the Bay Area is great and two of the main reasons are: 1. Winter overing birds .  This is time of year that California is happily invaded by shorebirds, geese, ducks, and outliers like the flock of Lapland Longspurs this winter in Point Reyes and the American dipper leaping into a creek near Lake Sonoma. 2.   High tides!   During winter the earth is closest to the sun and the tides are a little hight.
